Our Keynote Speaker is Kennan Scott, Vice President of Bitwise Industries. His work connects thousands from marginalized communities and systemic poverty with the resources necessary to access opportunities in the tech industry. Kennan worked for six years in the Oakland Unified School District as a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering Teacher at West Oakland Middle School, and the district-wide Manager of Computer Science Programs. We’re excited to have him back in person this year at our first onsite STEM Inclusivity Forum in four years!
Furthermore, with this year’s theme of Tech for All, we’re hearing about life in tech from engineers breaking barriers in the tech industry, including Justin Friend, Head of Customer Onboarding at Adobe who previously led the Salesforce Racial Equity Task Force; and graduates from MissionBit’s free career prep program.
We’ll also be exploring various STEM opportunities offered by organizations providing internships, summer programs, and other tech resources for youth during a panel and networking breakout sessions, including representatives from Technovation, Girls Who Code, MissionBit, Pilot City, Bitwise Industries, and local high school robotics team CardinalBotics.
This is a gateway tech experience for many and we are proud to welcome students who are new to tech and coding! As part of the event, you'll also be able to participate in interactive, beginner-friendly STEM workshops including:
Introduction to Website Development
Introduction to Circuitry: Arduino Basics
Computer Dismantlery: The UnMaker Movement
[EXCLUSIVE] Technovation App Inventor Workshop
